EXPERIENCE

Manager, Creative Services
Catalina Marketing
April 2022 – Present

As a manager, I am able to leverage the knowledge, skills, and cross-functional relationships I gained at Catalina. Having trained the team, created the processes that we use, and being a designer, this was a natural transition. Although it's not necessary for a manager to know how to do the jobs of their team, it has put our small team at an advantage because we can more strategically troubleshoot and develop long-term solutions.

  • Leverage design skills, product understanding, technical knowledge and team relationships to help maintain a remote production team located in Costa Rica.

  • Troubleshoot escalated creative tasks to ensure solutions are strategic and successful.

  • Interview, hire and onboard new Creative Services team members.

  • Support direct reports and other designers by providing feedback, encouragement, and course-correction based on data, development goals and individual needs.

Creative Services Process Manager
Catalina Marketing
April 2020 – April 2022

As I continued to grow at Catalina, I began gravitating towards process-driven efficiencies. Due to my involvement with streamlining the value stream in Salesforce, I could make educated judgement calls on process-related questions and efficiencies. This role allowed me the flexibility to somewhat own the creative team's internal and cross-functional processes, while continuing to work on design projects.

  • Develop, document, and manage the creative team’s processes for products, procedures and design best practices.

  • Write and maintain internal training plans for workflow and new products, as well as external creative-related documentation.

  • Onboard new Creative Services team members, training in workflow, technologies, and Catalina best practices.

  • Provide art direction, process course-correction and overall best practice guidance to the Creative Services team and Operations partners.

Catalina Marketing
April 2017 - April 2020

I joined Catalina during a time when lots of things were changing which allowed me to learn, question and grow all at once. I was eager to learn and make positive improvements which gained respect from my peers and trust from my leaders. After three years, I was promoted to Senior Graphic Designer which gave me confidence to keep striving for positive changes and the opportunity grow even more as a designer and in my career as a whole.

  • Provide and strengthen senior-level understanding of design concepts like art direction, visual communication, composition, color theory and typography.

  • Partner cross-functionally on strategic initiatives that improve the creative process, Catalina products and service to our clients.

  • Identify, analyze and develop creative solutions that streamline processes and scale successfully.

Graphic Designer
Catalina Marketing
July 2014 - April 2017

I started at Catalina Marketing when I moved back to Florida. I had never worked in an environment with so many designers, a team of traffic coordinators, and so many deliverables that the assets required a DAM. However, my experience in a production environment at the newspaper and strategic mindset from the university set me up for success in this new role.

  • Design, revise and deliver effective consumer coupons and promotional ads for print and digital mediums .

  • Optimize, revise and pre-flight client-supplied or existing graphics to ensure production specifications are met.

  • Push design concepts and stagnant processes further in a pooled production environment while maintaining consistency for brands, internal partners and external clients.

Creative Specialist I
University of Central Missouri
February 2011 - July 2014

I loved working in higher education. I designed strictly for the university, mostly working with different departments to design recruitment pieces. Everything from the marketing approach, the photography, down to the printing, was executed in-house. This allowed me the the opportunity to work on photoshoots, commercials, collaborate with copy-writers, delegate to junior designers, and even be on the press team when President Obama visited campus.

  • Design and mediate the production of print and digital marketing collateral (brochures, billboards, digital banners, etc.).

  • Execute an average of 75 design and marketing tasks concurrently with due dates ranging from one-day to eight-weeks.

  • Manage and provide art direction to student designers.

  • Collaborate with a team of writers, creatives, and directors to develop and adhere to university’s strategic positioning platform.

Graphic Designer

The Sedalia Democrat
Aug 2008 - Feb 2011

For my role at a local newspaper, I worked with the other designers to create full color or black and white ads. In this specialized role, I also worked with the lead press operator to schedule the production of monthly special inserts. With this being one of my first design jobs, I quickly learned a lot in this fast paced environment.

  • Design and pre-flight ads for a 4-color press

  • Design and create print schedules for special sections that published quarterly or monthly
